E-Business and its Transformative Role in Supply Chain Management

Abstract: E-business is a comprehensive approach to conduct business transactions through the efficient use of internet technologies among stakeholders, including suppliers, manufacturers, and customers. It goes far beyond online trading or shopping. E-business in addition to facilitating sales includes a variety of supporting functions that are intended to streamline operations and improve efficiency at every level of an organization. Coordination, scheduling, acquiring raw materials, inventory control, manufacturing, ensuring delivery and customer service are all essential components of supply chain management (SCM). SCM has become strategically and operationally important in the face of growing globalization and international competition. Inter-organizational procedures have been significantly changed by the incorporation of e-business platforms, which usually make use of web browsers and internet-based systems. This study examines at how e-business affects supply chain strategy, with a special emphasis on three key areas, procurement, customer relationship management and the replenishment process. The objective is to evaluate how e-commerce technologies optimize SCM operations and contribute to competitive advantage.
